La Fraiseraie de Pornic is a family history and love for the land born in 1970. That year, Joseph Maillard and his wife decided to exploit the fields of Pornic and the good sunshine of their region to produce strawberries and sell them in local markets. The small farm was then called “Au cœur de La Fraiseraie”.

Five years later, in 1975, Joseph’s children were looking for a way to earn pocket money. They rely on Joseph’s know-how to elaborate jams which immediately meet a great success. The company is growing and diversifying. A workshop of transformation is arranged to launch out in the market of jams. Visitors can access the strawberry fields and take away souvenirs from their visit in the store.

In 1985, the Maillard family inaugurated its prestigious store on the port of Pornic. This strategic pitch increases the company’s notoriety and allows gourmet visitors to discover a tasty local product.

In the 2000s, the family opened a creperie and several other stores in Nantes, La Baule, Guérande, Saint-Brévin, Tharon-Plage and la Bernerie-en-Retz. In 2015, 40 years after its creation, the Pornic strawberry farm passed into the hands of the Têtedoie family. A new store opens in 2016 in Noirmoutier.

The production cycle of strawberries and its by-products starts in the fields. Since 1970, the producers of the Pornic Fraiserie have been working with two varieties: the mara des bois and the cirafine. To ensure the quality and naturalness of the strawberries, they use insects instead of chemicals to control pests. Once ripe, the fruit is picked in a greenhouse. They then go to the workshop, where they are transformed. After simmering patiently in a large copper pot, the strawberries come out in the form of jams, fruit jellies, cookies, teas and infusions, ice creams, cocktails and syrups. The products are then transported to the stores. The ideal place to taste them on the spot is to sit at a table of the creperie on the port of Pornic, contemplating the boats that leave for Noirmoutier.
