History of the pottery of Pornic

At the end of the Second World War, Pornic has lost its former reputation. The seaside resort famous for its sea baths is running out of steam. The creation of the Manufacture Bretonne de Faïences Artistiques gives a big boost to the local economy. Since 1948, the earthenware factory in Pornic perpetuates the art practiced by the Dryander family, a family that dominates the art of working on earthenware since the early nineteenth century on its land of origin, Lorraine. The opening of the factory allows 80 Pornicais to find a job The raw material, the cookie, arrives in large quantities by train from Lorraine.

After a difficult start, the company takes off again under the impulse of Raymond Cordier who creates “Le Petit Breton”. The faience manufacture gains its letters of nobility thanks to the collaboration of painters who carry out original decorations of great quality. The company went through a period of decline in the 1980s before being taken over in 1994 by a Luxembourg entrepreneur, Jules Wagner. The factory becomes independent and is renamed “Faïencerie de Pornic”.

In the 2000s, it underwent major transformations, including an extension of the storage building, the opening of the doors to the public and the creation of an online store.
